Watermelon Fluorite Slab 56g

A lovely, thin face-polished slab of watermelon fluorite, with rough sides and unpolished back. Nice banded patterns and patches of green, purple, and blue.

Ironically, fluorite is naturally transparent and colourless, but is known as the most colourful mineral in the world. It readily accepts and includes impurities that give it its wide variety of colours. Green fluorite is generally coloured by the inclusion of copper, iron causes yellows oranges and reds, yttrium creates purples, and zirconium causes orange or red fluorite. The inclusions in fluorite frequently cause it to glow under UV light... the phenomenon of fluorescence was actually named after the mineral in 1852.
