Also called fairy quartz, spirit quartz is characterized by large druse-like points growing perpendicular to a much larger central crystal, visually similar to a pineapple. Amethyst is a variety of quartz crystal. Iron molecules have bonded in the crystal lattice and, with natural irradiation, create the purple colour. Amethyst often forms in conjunction with other members of the quartz family, like smoky and clear quartz.
As a material, amethyst has been used for centuries in jewellery and in attractive displays. It has been attributed with prosperity, spiritual awareness, and a clear head. Amethyst is said to bring serenity and sweet dreams. It helps us discard old, negative influences and habits.
