Smoky quartz is a variety of quartz crystal. Aluminum molecules have bonded in the crystal lattice and, with natural irradiation, create a dark grey or brown colour. Hematite is a widely found iron oxide. It can be black, silver, or reddish and can often form dramatic inclusions in other minerals.
Both smoky quartz and hematite have reputations as exceptionally grounding and protective stones. Hematite is said to help prevent random thoughts and distractions from interfering with the task at hand, while smoky quartz is known to bring stability and emotional balance.
