This is a tall and dramatic tourmaline and smoky quartz specimen. The smoky quartz is light and clear, the tourmaline striated and tubular. That means there's lots of fun goodness to look at.
Smoky quartz is a variety of quartz crystal. Aluminum molecules have bonded in the crystal lattice and, with natural irradiation, create a dark grey or brown colour. Smoky quartz often forms in conjunction with other members of the quartz family, like amethyst and clear quartz. Tourmaline is a complex silicate, compounding elements like aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, and/or potassium. It forms in a variety of colours and is often referred to as Schorl when it is very dark brown to black.
Smoky quartz and black tourmaline are both said to be exceptionally protective and capable of purifying negative energy.
