Labradorite is a calcium-rich feldspar, which often displays a brilliant flash, or schiller, when moved in light. The flashes are a result of light diffracting off precisely spaced, smaller-than-microscopic layers of calcium or sodium.

In metaphysical work, labradorite is a stone that is said to provide the strength to embrace change and transformation. It is thought to be both protective and grounding.
