This is a big, beautiful jacaranda amethyst cluster from Zambia. Weighing in at just about 2kg, it has beautiful violet purple spires on a bed of smoky quartz, with a lovely misting of quartz throughout. It's big and chunky, dramatic and very interesting.
Amethyst is a variety of quartz crystal. Iron molecules have bonded in the crystal lattice and, with natural irradiation, create purple colour centers. Amethyst often forms in conjunction with other members of the quartz family, like smoky and clear quartz.
