This is the kind of chevron amethyst you get from Madagascar. Purple clouds dance among quartz patches, dark then light then dark again. Swaths of earthy red hematite sweep through the piece, with flashy veils to be discovered throughout. This piece is stormy and beautiful.
Amethyst is quartz that has bonded with iron and it receives its characteristic colour through heat and irradiation. Chevron amethyst amethyst forms under chaotic conditions, when the distribution of iron is uneven and heat and radiation conditions change. The result is varying intensities and colours within a single specimen, often in characteristic V shapes (chevrons).
Chevron amethyst is said to be a stone of clarity and intuition. It dispels the fears and negativity that confuse us and leaves us available for spiritual growth and healing.
