This is a dramatic carnelian tower with a wide, bright swath of white quartz through a background of subtly banded red-brown carnelian.
Carnelian is a red to brown to almost black variety of chalcedony, which is quartz whose crystal formations are too small to be seen by the naked eye. Its red colouration comes from included iron oxide and it may also include areas of white or clear quartz.
