Blue Lace Agate, Face-Polished Geode 284g

Blue lace agate from Malawi, with a polished face. This is a delicately banded agate nodule with two vugs lined with botryoidal chalcedony and sparkling drusy. 

Agates are a form of translucent, banded quartz in which crystals form microscopically, often in bands or with interesting inclusions of other materials. Blue lace agate is unusual among agates in that its beautiful blue colour isn’t the result of the inclusion of other minerals. It is thought to get its colour because of the way its crystal structure scatters light, called Rayleigh scattering. It’s literally the same principal that makes the sky blue.

Blue lace agate is a stone of calm, compassion, and clear communication.
